Semester almost over.
So the semester is finally winding down. All of my Java Script assignments are completed. The next couple of weeks should be pretty easy except for the final.
Now back to working on the Red Line Studio site! I uploaded Phase I last week, now I am just refining it a bit and preparing for Phase II, which will include the Java gallery.
One of my classmates, who is a wiz at Flash, is networking some of us designers and developers so we can start getting work. He used to sell insurance so is just the kinda guy to drum up business. I'm excited about having someone else find me work so I can focus on designing!
And finally, the website designer and developer students at KVCC have started their own student organization called Valley Devigners. We just started the organization so our website will not be up until the fall semester. I'm really excited about being appart of this group. It will give the designers and programmers an opportunity to interface outside of class and potential work on some projects together as well as offer a contact point to the surround communities. Appartently, quite a few job leads come through the school but there is no official way to deceminate the information!

Adobe has a color theory website that is phenomenal!!! And I rarely say this about websites. It is called kulur and is so cool I can barely describe it. You can search color palettes based on keywords, create your own color palette based on a varitey of color theory concepts like triads, analogous, or complementary, or upload an image file and create a color palette based on colors identified within the image.
But wait, there's more! Each color mixture is displayed in HSV, RGB, CMYK, LAB and HEX formulas!!! I've used it several times this semester to come up with color combinations for several websites but it can be used for any design project requireing color. No, I do not get paid by Adobe for gushing about this site. But after using color books for so long I'm so glad someone came up with this concept. Enjoy, and try not to spend too much time on the site!
Sounds like I'm starting in the right direction..I don't have the $$ for CS4, but I have CS2 at work. I also use Quark (or as one coworker and I have started to call it FailXPress because it's so buggy) at work. I've gotten the hang of Photoshop, been experimenting here and there with GIMP at home, and looked at Illustrator, but haven't really had the program click for some reason. The transition from Photoshop to Illustrator hasn't been easy.
I was thinking this would be a good field for me because I love creating stuff like collages and other artsy things. I scrapbook. I've started getting interested in photography (it's more of a hobby than a passion). I also realized that if I do this, maybe I can somehow mesh the two other things I really love: music and the great outdoors
How do you like GIMP? I have been ruminating about downloading it. Have heard both good and bad things about it. I really love that it is open source but have no interest in learning yet another complicated piece of software.
Hope you find your way through to something that meshes your many interests. That has been my quest for my entire adult life. Our society seems so obsessed with getting a 'good' job or having a 'successful' career or in current parlance, a 'recession-proof ' career. Never any mention about a career that is a good fit for your personality, lifestyle, or interests.
Keep up the good fight to finding something that really meshes the varied components of your personality together. Life is just too short to spend time in a career that isn't fulfilling or meaningful (not to insinuate that that is your case, just speaking from my experience).
You should definitely download Gimp. Honestly, once I got a tour of Photoshop and started playing with that, I found Gimp to be really similar. For the most part, I actually like it better. There are more filters, it's easy to use, and there are some tools that I wish Photoshop had that Gimp does (the tools could be in the newer version of Photoshop, I dunno). The only thing I don't really like is the limited number of fonts that come with the program. The good thing is, it's not hard to find out how to add more. Here's what I've done.
Thanks for the encouragement =) I don't want to have some job where I'm not happy with what I'm doing. There's really no point. Monetary wealth doesn't show the true success of any person. I'm glad you're heading in a direction where you're feeling happier about your life path!
Fonts are such a tricky thing with the copyrights and all. You really have to put money down to get the good ones. I try and make do with what is free but get frustrated. BTW, love your profile quote.
